We are thrilled you are considering HTA — a unique place where we take learning seriously and enjoy the process. Our model is perfectly designed to help students develop the independence, time management, and confidence they need to successfully transition into life after school. Students benefit from a program enriched by community partnerships and regular Field Studies, allowing them to apply what they learn in relevant, real-life situations across the island, from Makapu‘u Point to Pearl Harbor. We are proud of the positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture that defines our campus, and we look forward to partnering with you and your student.

WHAT MAKES WAIPAHU AWESOME
THE HANDS-ON PROJECTS
Waipahu students design, build, test, and explore. They engineer and launch rockets carrying raw eggs. They simulate geological processes that melt rocks. They separate out DNA. They go into space to observe a comet. And, just saying, there’s a lot of exploding that goes on in high school chemistry. We definitely learn by doing.
MIDDLE SCHOOL pbHTA PROGRAM
GRADES 6-8
We are thrilled to offer our innovative pbHTA program for Grades 6-8. pbHTA also follows a blended schedule, but students dive deeper into the field as they work one day a week with our community partners. The enrollment and schedule for pbHTA are separate from our O.G. blended program.
STUDENT SUPPORT
Our blended schedule gives teachers the time to support each student whether they need some extra help or an extra challenge.
There may be times when students are required to attend support sessions. For middle school students, this is during Momentum Lab on Mondays. For high school, this is during virtual office hours on Fridays.
NUVUX DESIGN STUDIO
GRADES 11 & 12
NuVuX is at the leading edge of our innovation. This is a creative, immersive design program that steps away from textbooks and traditional classroom instruction and into the design studio. Working in our Makerspace, students explore questions that illuminate social issues and their place in the world.
A QUALITY EDUCATION
CLUBS
After-school clubs are formed each semester based on student interests. You might enjoy anything from crafts to astronomy, science olympiad, theatre, P.E., media, cooking, or student leadership. Clubs are a great way to socialize and learn new skills.
MORE THAN A PARENT.A LEARNING COACH
One of the key differences at HTA is the close relationship between family and school. All HTA students must have a Learning Coach. This is typically a parent or guardian, but can be another designated adult.
FIELD STUDIES
Middle school students enjoy field experiences at places such as Pu‘uokapolei, Hawai‘i’s Plantation Village, the Challenger Center, and Kualoa Ranch. High school students can be found exploring history at Pearl Harbor or the King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center, analyzing art at the Honolulu Museum of Arts, or .helping to preserve resources in Waimea Valley.
MOMENTUM LAB MONDAYS
Momentum Lab offers open-campus time on Mondays — it’s a focused place to work, catch up, or push ahead. Students can get one-on-one support from their teachers, collaborate with peers on group projects, or find a quiet zone to focus on assignments. We also offer an array of enrichment opportunities ... think drivers’ ed, culinary labs, or a meeting space for K-Pop and manga enthusiasts.
CAREER-BASED LEARNING
Our innovative Career-Based Learning program allows our high school students to gain skills and experience out in the community — while earning credit! Waipahu students are environmental stewards, media mavens, entrepreneurs, scientists, and more.
COLLEGE & CAREER
HTA’s College and Career team works with students and their families to map out a best-fit plan for each individual, whether you’re on a career track or a college route.
Students can get ahead by taking Early College or Running Start classes, which allow them to challenge themselves and earn both high school and college credit. They can also participate in student leadership, community service, and the National Honor Society. And our graduation ceremony rocks!

We are proud of our positive, inviting, inclusive culture. Our small size and blended model allow us to truly focus on our students’ social and emotional development.
92 percent of HTA parents and teachers reported a positive and safe school culture in the School Quality Survey (SY 23-24).
From middle school activity nights to high school prom, we like to have fun. Waipahu student leadership, staff, and our awesome parent ‘ohana committee lay on the good times including movie and game nights, spirit weeks, school dances, a boo-ti-ful Halloween celebration, and loads of senior year celebrations.

How and where HTA students learn is different than a traditional brick and mortar school or homeschool.
SCHOOL IS FIVE DAYS A WEEK, BUT IT’S NOT ON CAMPUS EVERY DAY.
Blended learning enables students to follow their passions, it enhances relationships between students, families, and school, and allows students to engage in hands-on, experiential learning. Our unique model fosters independence and equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century.
