We are thrilled you are considering HTA — a unique place where we take learning seriously and enjoy the process. Our model is perfectly designed to help students develop the independence, time management, and confidence they need to successfully transition into life after school. Students benefit from a program enriched by community partnerships and regular Field Studies, allowing them to apply what they learn in relevant, real-life situations across the island, from Kōke‘e to Anini. We are proud of the positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture that defines our campus, and we look forward to partnering with you and your student.

THE HANDS-ON PROJECTS
Līhu‘e students learn about physics while building and racing mouse-trap cars or parachuting eggs to safety. They design and iterate in our Makerspace. They master micropipettes and separate DNA via gel electrophoresis. They insert glowing proteins into bacteria. We learn best by doing.
FIELD STUDIES
Our students are regularly spotted in the field studying ecosystems specific to Kōke‘e and marine estuaries, visiting important and historic sites on Kaua‘i and O‘ahu, learning about electricity at KIUC, investigating coral reefs at ‘Anini, learning about sustainable farming practices, and more. This builds connections between classroom learning and the real world.
STUDENT SUPPORT
Our blended schedule gives teachers the time to support each student whether they need some extra help or an extra challenge.
There may be times when students are required to attend support sessions. For middle school students, this is during Momentum Lab on Mondays. For high school, this is during virtual office hours on Fridays.
MOMENTUM LAB MONDAYS
Momentum Lab offers optional open-campus time on Mondays — it’s a focused place to work, catch up, or push ahead. Students can get one-on-one support from their teachers, collaborate with peers on group projects, or find a quiet zone to focus on assignments.
A CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY
We are proud of our positive, inviting, inclusive culture. Our small size and blended model allow us to truly focus on our students’ social and emotional development.
92 percent of HTA parents and teachers reported a positive and safe school culture in the School Quality Survey (SY 23-24).
From middle school activity nights to high school prom, we like to have fun. We enjoy movie and game nights, spirit weeks, school dances, a boo-ti-ful Halloween celebration, and loads of senior year celebrations.
MORE THAN A PARENT.A LEARNING COACH
One of the key differences at HTA is the close relationship between family and school. All HTA students must have a Learning Coach. This is typically a parent or guardian, but can be another designated adult.
A QUALITY EDUCATION
CAREER-BASED LEARNING
Our innovative Career-Based Learning program allows high school students to gain skills and experience out in the real world while earning credit. We’ve had students building experience at a local orthodontist, in an architecture firm, a veterinary clinic, a local bakery, at Kauai Labs, IT Kaua‘i, and Rainbow Roots Farms.
COLLEGE & CAREER
HTA’s College and Career team works with students and their families to map out a best-fit plan for each individual, whether you’re on a career track or a college route.
Students can get ahead by taking Running Start classes, which allow them to challenge themselves and earn both high school and college credit. They can also participate in student leadership, community service, and the National Honor Society. And our graduation ceremony on O‘ahu rocks!
ENRICHMENT & CLUBS
From cooking, drama, and typing to board games, autocad, 3D printing, jewelry making, and sewing there are enriching opportunities to engage all students.

How and where HTA students learn is different than a traditional brick and mortar school or homeschool.
SCHOOL IS FIVE DAYS A WEEK, BUT IT’S NOT ON CAMPUS EVERY DAY.
Blended learning enables students to follow their passions, it enhances relationships between students, families, and school, and allows students to engage in hands-on, experiential learning. Our unique model fosters independence and equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century.
