In this Waipahu NuVuX design studio, students examine the concept of identity as personal, collective, social, and cultural relationships that highlight our individual unique attributes. Using the body as the host, these enhanced aspects of their identity are shaped as wearables, extensions, and activations that reveal true characteristics that make them who they are.
THE SECRET CHARM

The Secret Charm, a reversible garment, is based on my short story “Charmed to Success.” The main character, Analysis Girl, can change her looks on the go. The idea centers on being in a rush and having the ability to change your identity through reversible clothes.

Open Up is a wearable hat that explores the idea of vulnerability within the wearer. It represents the balance between emotional openness and personal boundaries. People may respond to Open Up with curiosity or empathy, fostering deeper conversations. The wearer gains awareness of their own vulnerability and how others perceive it, potentially building trust and connection. When worn, the hat invites interaction by allowing the wearer to look in through the windows or physically opening or closing the door, creating a way to physically express vulnerability or privacy.
