What made you interested in teaching?
I come from a family of teachers however my original career path was to become a painter. My senior year of college I took an art class that changed my life. Twice a week my classmates, my professor, and I went into an inner city school in Detroit to work on a mural with a group of 4th grade students. Through this experience, I realized I wanted to become a teacher and positively impact children’s lives.
What do you find most challenging and rewarding about being a teacher?
What I find most rewarding about being a teacher are those moments where my students direct their own learning and develop a deep understanding or strengthen a personal interest. I find it challenging to strike a balance between facilitating learning for students as well as teaching important skills and strategies.
