I have been with HTA since its very early days and I could not be more passionate about our mission to address the unique strengths and challenges of every child. My career started with a love of geology so I initially became a science teacher. I joined the very young HTA in 2010 and was a founding member of the O‘ahu middle school teacher team before I transitioned into administration on the Waipahu campus. When I’m not working or with family and friends, you can find me surfing (mostly the North Shore), cooking, or traveling the world.

I loved school. It’s a place where I belonged, where I had inspirational teachers, an amazing friend group, and where I learned new things. I came to Hawai‘i after graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in environmental, population, and organismic biology. I started with HTA as a Learning Coach, then joined the staff as a math and science teacher, before becoming the Kaua‘i campus director in 2018. I’m still heading up the campus, but this year I’m also stepping into a new role as HTA’s associate director. It’s my job now, but I still love being in school.

HTA’s Governing Board is responsible for the overall fiscal, organizational, and academic oversight of our school. The board consists of 12 members, who represent the areas of education, finance, and business. Some members are parents and/or faculty and staff. All are volunteers. GOVERNING BOARD MEMBERS
TODD ERSKINE • CHAIR
Todd brings more than 20 years of financial experience to HTA and is a chartered financial analyst and a certified financial planner. Todd is the founder and managing partner of Kokua Capital Management. He earned his economics and political science majors at Northwestern University, and his career has taken him to Chicago and Wall Street. Todd comes from a family of educators and he married into one as well. Through these connections, he has had an up-close view of the positive and transformative impact of charter schools. Todd lives on Kapālama with his wife and their young daughter.
MARK BROWN • VICE CHAIR
Mark is the director of the East Hawai‘i Small Business Development Center at UH-Hilo. He is a certified professional coach and his career has revolved around transformative experiences, including 20 years with Outward Bound and co-founding HahnX, an online community dedicated to creating a positive impact by connecting, inspiring and equipping today’s change makers. Mark earned his master’s in business and entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University. He lives in Waimea on Hawai‘i Island. When he’s not working, he’s disappearing down a trail, fishing with his son, or paddling a boat somewhere. The wilderness always calls!
JENNIFER FORDYCE • SECRETARY
Jennifer is a high school special education teacher on our Maui campus, with expertise in education, communications, fundraising, and community connections. She joined the board to help with the big picture of helping our school thrive. Jennifer earned her bachelor’s at Goucher College and her master’s of arts in teaching at Brown University. She feels lucky to have built a home, family, and career on Maui and considers it part of her highest kuleana to help HTA be the best possible resource for the students and families of Hawaiʻi.
STEPHEN FOX
Stephen Fox holds his doctorate in cross-cultural psychology from New Zealand’s Victoria University. He earned his master’s degrees in community and cultural psychology and social work from UH-Mānoa. Stephen’s textbook, Culture and Psychology, was released in 2020. His primary research focuses on how people adapt in intercultural contact and, more specifically, to evaluating well-being outcomes of participation in traditional ethnocultural arts programs. Stephen is a musician and composer and has worked with musicians from West Africa, Indonesia, Korea, and other cultures. He has composed more than 20 musical scores for film.
MIKE HARDY
An impassioned IT Leader, Mike Hardy excels in team development and problem-solving across diverse sectors such as IT, business, marketing, and healthcare. He thrives on identifying inefficient processes and devising innovative solutions aimed at business growth. “Let‘s get better together,” is his personal mantra. Beyond his work with the Bank of Hawai‘i, Mike is an unapologetic nerd with a love of sci-fi, fantasy, and anything that pushes technological boundaries.
DAVID JONES
David is the senior vice president of the properties division at Central Pacific Bank. Born in Okinawa, Japan, he holds a B.S. in Information Technology Management. He has worked in construction and facilities management on O‘ahu for the last 15 years. He is especially passionate about elevating the customer experience through building improvements, collaborating with design consultants, and bringing those ideas to life. David is also the principal and consultant of Smart Buildings Hawaii, a facilities management consulting and condition assessment company. David is passionate about Okinawan culture and has served as president of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association and is involved with the United Japanese Society of Hawaii.
GREG CHAMPION • gchampion@myhta.org
Greg is general manager and asset manager at Ko Olina Development. He has more than 15 years of technology industry experience with Expedia and Travelocity.com focusing on destination marketing throughout Hawai‘i and California. Greg holds a master’s in business and tourism management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a bachelor’s in business communications from San Francisco State University. He is passionate about community development, asset management, and team leadership experience, and is also a Six Sigma Lean certified project management black belt.
DANA McLAUGHLIN
Dana is the founder and executive director of the Hawai‘i Keiki Museum, which connects keiki with island science and STEAM through interactive play. She earned her master’s in technology at MIT and her MBA from San Jose State. With her passion for project-based learning and community building, Dana shares HTA’s mission to ignite the imagination, foster innovation, and nurture a lifelong love of learning. The Hawai‘i Keiki Museum has hosted HTA Kona students through class projects, a geology club, and Career-Based Learning projects.
ARIN CRANLEY
Arin is a software engineer at HTA with over two decades of experience in the technology sector. Arin is the person behind the MyHTA mobile app and is one of the key players in modernizing and developing HonuHub. He is passionate about Hawai‘i’s cultural heritage and was awarded the 2020 DOE Innovation Grant for his work bridging the gap between students and kūpuna and traditional Hawaiian practices. His leadership at World Point Interactive, along with international travels, and his family’s diverse cultural heritage have deepened Arin’s appreciation for global inclusivity and diversity. Arin is also an HTA parent and Learning Coach.
DANIEL BOOTH
Daniel is an IT risk management specialist in the Bank of Hawai‘i’s Information Risk and Controls Management department. He earned his bachelor’s degrees in both economics and psychology at UH-Mānoa. Daniel currently lives on O‘ahu, but he was born and raised in Hilo, and his love for the people and community there remains steadfast. Daniel attended a public charter school from K through 6, so knows firsthand how charter schools can provide students with a very special learning experience.
FRANKIE HARRISS
Frankie is the vice chancellor for academic affairs at UH-Kaua‘i Community College. She brings 29 years of experience as a community college educator, including time as a faculty member, leader, and executive. Her international experience includes the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Frankie holds a doctorate of education in higher education from the University of Liverpool, a master of science in botany from the University of South Florida, Tampa, and a bachelor of science in biological sciences from San Diego State University.

Information Technology Director
Hawaii Technology Academy (HTA), a public charter school, seeks candidates for the position of Information Technology Director. The Information Technology Director serves in the key capacity of ensuring that all constituents – parents, students, faculty, staff, and administration – have the hardware, software, and technological support necessary to succeed in our school community. Hawaii Technology Academy is a fast-growing, multi-campus institution and is seeking a candidate who can support and foster this continued growth. A bachelor’s degree and previous experience working in a school environment are preferred but not required.
Duties of the Education Assistant include but are not limited to:
- Providing assistance to a professional educator by learning and performing a variety of non-instructional and supportive tasks
- Receiving training in instructional/counseling-related tasks
- Performing other related duties as assigned, including clerical tasks
- Under the direction of a special education teacher, assists Elementary School special needs students with academic and/or behavioral/emotional difficulties

Hawaii Technology Academy, a public charter school, seeks candidates for the position of Elementary School Educator or Long-term Substitute for its Ewa Beach Campus to provide classroom instruction from November 6th, 2023 - May 31st, 2024. The details of this position will be determined, given the candidate's qualifications. Candidates should have:
- a bachelor’s degree in education or elementary education;
- a minimum of one to three years of teaching experience.
A master’s degree or certification in elementary education, and/or a Hawaii State teacher’s license are preferred but not mandatory.
Preference will be given to candidates who have teacher certifications.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- providing daily face-to-face and virtual instruction to elementary students;
- preparing courses and designing project-based lessons;
- serving as an elementary school advisor;
- holding tutoring sessions with individual students and small groups;

Priority will be given to candidates with experience working with students of high school age and who have competencies in helping students with upper level math and science coursework.
Duties of the Education Assistant include but are not limited to:
- assisting the professional educator by performing a variety of non-instructional and supportive tasks
- participating in professional development and training activities related to instructional and counseling tasks

Hawaii Technology Academy Public Charter School seeks candidates for the position of Elementary Educator for Grades 2/3 (Lahaina Campus) for the 2023-2024 school year.
Candidates should have:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, or elementary education;

The Campus Safety & Facilities Officer focuses on maintaining a visible presence in public areas, observing incidents, acting, and notifying others according to established school protocols. The Safety & Facilities Officer maintains a safe and friendly environment for HTA's students in grades K-12 and works to forge positive relationships with parents, students and the school's neighbors. The Safety & Facilities Officer will patrol campus buildings and grounds to prevent or deal with any incidents of disorderly conduct, violation of school traffic, safety, security, or other regulations. The Safety & Facilities Officer will assist school administrators with safety drills and inspections, attendance procedures, and basic facilities management. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, exercise good judgment and initiative at all times, and have excellent communication skills. The Campus Safety Officer reports to the Kihei Campus Director. Depending upon the applicant the position could be half or full-time and is classified under HGEA Bargaining Unit 3.
