Our pbHTA Grade 4 and 5 students recently embarked on an inspiring journey of entrepreneurship, innovation, and social impact. At the start of the project, they were tasked with identifying real-world problems and creating products to solve them. It culminated in a Makers’ Fair, where they opened their businesses to ‘Ewa Beach students and ‘ohana.

This was a hands-on experience from start to finish. Students crafted their proposals and pitched them in a Shark Tank-style setting. They found investors (Mahalo, Learning Coaches!), made prototypes, got feedback, and then built up their stock.
When the doors to the fair opened, they were ready to go! The majority of the businesses sold out and — after paying back their investors — the class raised $1,672.44. They were so proud to give this to the organization of their choice: the O‘ahu SPCA.
“We received a lot of great feedback about this project from both students and families,” says pbHTA teacher Miss Mohammadi. “They got to learn about business and economics, stretch some entrepreneurial skills, and they all feel great about helping the SPCA.”
