VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION AT HTA

Picture
As part of the blended learning model, students at HTA receive virtual instruction from their teachers and advisors. HTA uses Zoom as the e-learning platform to deliver virtual instruction. This program is accessible on any computer, tablet, or mobile device. Zoom offers teachers and students  interactive tools that make virtual class highly engaging. Students receive synchronous virtual instruction from home, while still interacting with their classmates and diving into the curriculum.

  • Virtual learning encompasses various formats. HTA educators creatively use the platform Zoom to include:
    • whole group instruction
    • small group instruction
    • student presentations
    • individual tutoring
    • Learning Coach support
  • Zoom offers teachers many tools to make their virtual classrooms engaging. Not only can students see and hear their teacher, they also use:
    • interactive whiteboards
    • polls and quizzes
    • live chat
    • video and audio streaming
    • breakout rooms and more

  • One of the many benefits of teaching virtually is that classes can be recorded. Students are given access to virtual class recordings so that they may revisit the video and review important material. Viewing the recording of a virtual class also gives the student the benefit of being able to pause the video to take notes or ask questions. This allows students to learn and retain information at their own, individual pace.

LEADERS IN VIRTUAL LEARNING

Picture
Earlier this year, the forced shift to virtual instruction in response to the COVID-19 pandemic left schools across the nation scrambling to effectively deliver instruction to students of all ages and needs. For Hawaii Technology Academy, the crisis presented a unique opportunity to showcase its long-standing
experience with virtual instruction.

HTA’s educators wanted to give back to their community. HTA’s certified
teachers launched HTA LIVE--a team of virtual education experts that provided online workshops and training in virtual instruction best practices for fellow educators and schools who had to transition to a fully virtual learning environment as a result of the crisis.
